Three keys

Key moments in the Rockies' 6-3 win against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field:

1 Four Rockies relievers pitched 5 2/3 scoreless, hitless innings, retiring 14 straight batters before a walk in the ninth. Matt Herges, who pitched 2 2/3 innings, took over for starter Tim Harikkala in the fourth with runners on first and second with one out and got Jacque Jones to ground into a double play

2 Troy Tulowitzki doubled home two runs in the three-run sixth after Kazuo Matsui was intentionally walked to load the bases. The rally began with a walk to Geronimo Gil and Ian Stewart's first major league hit, a pinch-hit double off Kerry Wood. Matt Holliday's groundout drove in the final run of the inning.

3 Harikkala singled home the second run with two out in the two-run second after escaping a jam in the top of the inning. After giving up back-to-back singles to Mark DeRosa and Mike Fontenot, Harikkala got Jason Kendall to pop out, struck out Felix Pie looking and got Sean Marshall to ground to first.

Etc.

To make room for Harikkala on the roster before the game Sunday, the Rockies optioned right-hander Ryan Speier back to Triple-A Colorado Springs. In order to get Harikkala on the 40- man roster, the club recalled Sean Barker from Colorado Springs and placed him on the 60-day disabled list. Barker hit .330 in 72 games with the Sky Sox but has not played since July 14 because of a strained hamstring. . . . Todd Helton returned to the lineup after missing three games because of back spasms. Helton went 0-for-4 but nearly missed a home run on a long drive to right field in the third inning. . . . Matsui went 0-for-3 with two walks, ending his nine-game hitting streak. Matsui did have a stolen base in his fourth consecutive game. . . . Harikkala, who made his major league debut in 1995, had his first career hit and first career RBI on an infield single in the second. . . . Clint Barmes made his first appearance in center field Saturday and his first start Sunday. . . . Right-handed relief pitcher Jorge Julio extended his scoreless streak to 8 2/3 innings. . . . Opponents have had only three hits in the past 20 at-bats against right- handed reliever LaTroy Hawkins. . . . The Cubs activated outfielder Daryle Ward from the 15-day disabled list and placed outfielder Cliff Floyd on the bereavement list.
