A man accused of killing an Eaton couple in a hit-and-run, then leaving his injured wife in their car is scheduled for a preliminary hearing this morning in Weld District Court.

Martin Morado, 45, faces charges of vehicular homicide while driving recklessly, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident involving death for his part in the June 13 crash.

Morado and his wife were traveling in their Ford Taurus about 8 p.m. that day when Morado allegedly ran a stop sign at Weld County Road 54 and Weld County Road 45. His car smashed into a station wagon carrying Monte Davenport, 61, and Sandy Davenport, 60. The Davenports died.

State Patrol troopers said Morado fled, leaving the couple and his injured wife at the scene.

Troopers investigating the scene said they found an open bottle of alcohol in the car, and possibly a small amount of marijuana.

Morado eluded police for more than 20 hours before being arrested walking into the North Colorado Medical Center, where his wife was being treated.
