SIMONS: Sale offers triple play
Published August 11, 2007 at midnight
You could come to the Cherry Creek Container Store's grand opening today and Sunday for the prizes, or perhaps because 10 percent of weekend sales will be donated to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
Besides the festivities, though, you'll also find the Summer Sale. Through Sept. 3, collapsible mesh laundry cubes, usually $15, are $10; shower caddies, usually $20, are $10; hardware organizers, usually $8 to $20, are $6 to $15; and an acrylic makeup organizer, usually $35, is $25.
The store opens at 9 a.m. at University Boulevard and East First Avenue, 303-336- 0909, and you might want to show up early to get a good parking space and catch the Cherry Creek Farmers' Market. Summer Sale prices also are good at the Lone Tree store, 8687 Park Meadows Center Drive, 303-768-8000. For more information, go to containerstore.com.
The Book Nook, run by Friends of the Range- view Library District, is closing, and inventory is being liquidated from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Many books are like new and will be sold for 50 cents or less. The bookstore is at 8992 Washington St., Thornton, in the basement of the Thornton branch library.
Tagawa Gardens, 7711 S. Parker Road, Aurora, 303-690-4722, tagawagardens.com, has knocked 25 percent off practically everything in stock for its 25th anniversary sale through Aug. 23. Perennials and rose bushes are half-price. The store also is hosting the Great American Bake Sale on Sunday, with all the money spent on goodies going to Share Our Strength, strength.org, a nonprofit organization that works to end childhood hunger.
Through Aug. 18, the retirement sale at Glass Roots Antiques, 27 E. Dakota Ave., 303-778-8693, offers a 40 percent discount on a wide array of pottery, china, silver, furniture, Depression glass and more. From Aug. 19 to closing day on Sept. 1, everything is half-price.
At Puttin' on the Ritz, a women's consignment store at 1446 S. Colorado Blvd., 303-759- 4398, when you buy one piece of upscale designer clothing, an equally classy item comes free. There are a few exceptions to the offer, which runs through Aug. 18.
Pianos and digital keyboards used by the Denver School of the Arts are on sale from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the school, 7111 Montview Blvd., 720-424-1722. The instruments are from such makers as Steinway, Baldwin and Yamaha, and most are less than a year old. Because they are donated at the beginning of the year, prices are significantly lower than retail, and a portion of the price is tax-deductible.
