Two men sought in robbery spree

Police are searching for two men believed to be involved in a series robberies around the metro area Thursday, including one that prompted a lockdown of five Aurora schools Thursday.

Two masked, armed men robbed the East Iliff Avenue Family Dollar Store near South Buckley Road at 10:35 a.m. Thursday.

As police set a search perimeter, five nearby schools were put into lockdown as a precaution until 1 p.m.

The suspects are described as a black man in his mid- 20s, 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, wearing a black shirt with white letters and gray jeans, and a Hispanic man in his mid-20s, 6 feet tall, 180 to 190 pounds, wearing a black or red shirt and jean shorts.

In a second robbery just after noon, an Arvada Family Dollar store was hit. Two masked, armed men took an undisclosed amount of cash.

A third robbery took place at a Westminster Starbucks. Police say two armed, masked men robbed the store at 103rd Avenue and Federal Boulevard around 1:15 p.m.

Police describe one of the men involved in the Starbucks robbery as black, 19 or 20 years old, 5-foot-6 and 160 pounds. The other man is described as black, 29 years old, 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds.

At 3 p.m., two suspects robbed a Thornton McDonalds at 10195 N. Washington St.

Police describe one of the men as Hispanic, wearing a blue shirt, brown pants and a white mask. The other robber was described as a black man wearing a dark shirt, black shorts and a baseball cap.

Nobody was injured in any of the robberies.

Investigators are working to determine whether the same two men committed all four robberies.
