Rounding third

Published August 10, 2007 at midnight

The summer of threequels comes to an end this weekend with the release of Rush Hour 3. They've all fared fairly well at the box office, although not so well with the critics:

SPIDER-MAN 3

Domestic gross: $336 million

What the review said: "Delivers enough of the desired comic-books goods to keep the series humming."

SHREK THE THIRD

Domestic gross: $320 million

What the review said: ". . . an amusing - if not consistently brilliant - edition of a series that has yet to show signs that it needs to call it quits."

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END

Domestic gross: $307 million

What the review said: "Unconscionably long at 2 hours and 48 minutes, saddled with a plot that badly needed streamlining and running a bit low on humor . . . "

OCEAN'S 13

Domestic gross: $116 million

What the review said: " . . . feels like one trip too many to the craps table, playing the same hunches, with the outcome unimaginatively clear from the start."

THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM

Domestic gross: $78 million

What the review said: "Clever and smart, fast and fun . . . The first (threequel) that doesn't feel like a dragged-out continuation of a series."
