Three keys

Key moments in the Rockies' 10-2 loss against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night at Coors Field:

1 Right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez was lifted after giving up hits to the first five Cubs batters in the third inning. It was the shortest start of the season for a Rockies pitcher and only the third start of fewer than four innings. Josh Fogg failed to retire a batter in the fourth April 20 against San Diego and Taylor Buchholz pitched 3 1/3 innings May 1 in San Francisco.

2 With two out and two on in the second, Ryan Theriot hit a groundball toward third that Garrett Atkins overran, allowing one run to score and setting up a two-run double from Jacque Jones.

3 Trailing 4-0, the Rockies' Yorvit Torrealba led off the bottom of the second when left fielder Matt Murton couldn't make a catch, but he easily threw out Torrealba trying get a double.

Etc.

Ryan Spilborghs has the fewest at-bats (146) of any player with 40 RBI. Ramon Hernandez of Baltimore is second with 232 at- bats. . . . The Rockies fell to 15-18 in games left-handers started against them this year, but they lost for only the fourth time in their past 12 games. . . . When the Cubs finish their four-game visit to Colorado, they will wrap up a stretch of games on 20 consecutive days. After getting a day off, they will then play 13 games in the next 13 days, giving them 33 games in the 34-day stretch from July 24 through Aug. 26. . . . Cubs pitchers Carlos Zambrano (14 wins) and Ted Lilly (13 wins) have the most wins of any National League teammates. In the American League, C.C. Sabathia (14) and Fausto Carmona (13) of Cleveland have combined for 27, as have Boston's Josh Beckett (14) and Tim Wakefield (13) or Daisuke Matsuzaka (13). . . . The crowd of 40,738 was the eighth of more than 40,000 for the Rockies this year and only the second that wasn't Opening Day, a fireworks night or involving the Yankees (three) or Mets (two). They sold 46,039 for the Dodgers on July 28.
