World's tallest horse coming to Fort Collins

Published August 8, 2007 at midnight

Hay! You gotta hand it to this horse.

Because when it comes to hands, Radar stands at 19 — plus 3 1/2 inches — which, of course, would convert his height to a mane hair over 79 inches tall.

So no doubt Radar will be looming large when he lumbers into Fort Collins this weekend.

The world's tallest living horse will be at the JAX Farm and Ranch Store, 1000 N. Highway 287 in Fort Collins, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.

The record-holding horse, as certified by Guinness World Records, has appeared all over the United States and on television.

His title for tallness could be on the ropes, however, as a Tennessee horse is bucking at the distinction.

At an official measuring recently, Jenson Diplomat Tina — known as Tina — measured 20 hands tall.

Horses are measured along the front leg to the top of the shoulder.

The documentation of her height will be sent to Guinness, based in London, to determine the tallest of them all.

In the meantime, keep this Sunday's date on your Radar.
