Three Coloradans are preseason All-Big 12

University of Colorado outside hitter Amber Sutherland, a Glenwood Springs High School graduate, was named to the preseason All-Big 12 volleyball team.

Nebraska setter Rachel Holloway, a Smoky Hill High School graduate, and Cornhuskers outside hitter Tracy Stalls, a Lakewood High School graduate, were also named to the team.

The Buffaloes were picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 in a poll of coaches.

Nebraska was picked to win the title.

PUTNINA LEADS LATVIA CU sophomore Aija Putnina, a Regis High School graduate, scored 16 points for the Latvian women's basketball team in a 58-55 overtime loss Tuesday to U.S. representative North Carolina-Charlotte in the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

SLATTERY TAKES FIFTH Former CU athlete Sara Slattery finished fifth in the women's 5,000-meter race at the DN Galan track meet in Sweden.

SKY SOX BEAT ISOTOPES Tim Harikkala and Dan Serafini combined for a six-hitter as the Pacific Coast League's Colorado Springs Sky Sox won 4-0 against the Albuquerque Isotopes in New Mexico.

Jayson Nix hit two home runs for the Sky Sox.

SHOWCASE STINT Rocky Mountain High School shortstop Andy Burns will play in the Aflac All-American baseball game Saturday in San Diego.

HUNT LEADS Highlands Ranch resident Rob V. Hunt (The Links Golf Course) fired a first-round 67 to take a one-shot lead at the Colorado Section PGA Assistant Professional Championship tournament.

Denver golfer Kirk L. Rider (Bear Creek Golf Club) and Gypsum resident Chad Hansen (Country Club of the Rockies) each carded a 4-under 68 at Buffalo Run Golf Course.

EATON MEDALIST Englewood Golf Club representative Kim Eaton totaled 78 Tuesday to win medalist honors in stroke-play qualifying for the Colorado Women's Golf Association Match Play Championship at Woodmoor Pines Golf and Country Club in Monument.

SKILLS SET Morrison resident Stefan Arnautovich (boys basketball, ages 10-11) and Colorado Springs resident Jeremy Webb (boys track, ages 12-13) are national finalists this week in the Junior Olympics Skills Competition in Colorado Springs.
