Level 3 CEO to take medical leave
Published August 8, 2007 at midnight
Level 3 Communications CEO James Crowe said today he is taking a leave of about three weeks later this month so doctors can operate on a tumor believed to be benign.
Crowe said the tumor of the pituitary gland was discovered by his doctor during a routine physical examination.
"I have been advised that the tumor is almost certainly benign, and that it does not have a negative effect on my ability to conduct my usual business affairs," Crowe said in a statement. "However, if left untreated, this condition could have significant, adverse, long-term health consequences. Therefore, surgical removal is recommended."
He said the surgery is anticipated to occur in the last week of August, and that he will continue his usual schedule until then.
"I plan to resume that schedule after a two to three week recovery period," he said.
Broomfield-based Level 3 operates a nationwide communications
network.
