Driver's BAC well over limit in crash that killed boy, 10

Published August 8, 2007 at midnight

WESTMINSTER — The driver of the car that killed a 10-year-old boy last Friday had a blood-alcohol content of three times the legal limit, police said today.

Joshua Beadle, 21, is being held in the Adams County Jail on $20,000 bail. He would not be released from the jail even he came up with the money, however, because the military has a hold on him due to a desertion charge from the U.S. Army, Westminster police said.

Cole Collins, 10, was riding in the back seat of an SUV with family friends when Beadle's car hit the SUV, causing it to flip several times, according to witnesses.

Family friend Kevin Turner said Cole's parents were too distraught to speak today, but they wanted to thank the community for its support.

Cole's parents, through Turner, urged people to never drink and drive.
