NUMBERS GAME
.467 batting average with runners in scoring position for outfielder Ryan Spilborghs, the best mark in the majors among players with at least 45 at-bats in those situations. Spilborghs has 21 hits in 45 at-bats with runners in scoring position.
ROSTER MOVE
The Rockies juggled their bullpen after the win, optioning right-hander Ramon Ramirez to Triple-A Colorado Springs. The club will recall right-hander Ryan Speier before tonight's game.
Opponents had hit .370 against Ramirez in his past eight outings and he had surrendered one walk in his past three games after surrendering three walks in his first 18 games.
Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said Speier, who missed last season after undergoing surgery for a torn labrum, deserved the chance after posting a 3.35 ERA with a Pacific Coast League-leading 28 saves in 41 games with the Sky Sox.
Speier allowed four earned runs in 2 1/3 innings in three games with the Rockies earlier this season.
SPEED DEMON
The 33 bunt hits collected by Rockies leadoff hitter Willy Taveras has put the center fielder into elite territory. According to STATS Inc., it is the second-best single-season total since 1974, trailing only the 42 bunt hits by Brett Butler of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1992.
