Rapids to face Seattle in U.S. Open Cup
The Colorado Rapids will continue their hunt for the U.S. Open Cup tonight in Seattle.
The Rapids, one of three Major League Soccer clubs still alive in the annual tournament, face the United Soccer League's Seattle Sounders in a quarterfinal match at Qwest Field at 8 p.m. MDT today.
The winner advances to face the winner of tonight's match between MLS' FC Dallas and the USL's Charleston (S.C.) Battery.
In their two previous tournament appearances, the Rapids won 2-1 against MLS' Real Salt Lake and 3-1 against the USL's California Victory.
PIONEERS ADD ASSISTANTS Adam Buseck has been hired as an assistant men's soccer coach by the University of Denver and Tara Singleton has been hired as an assistant women's lacrosse coach.
Buseck spent the last two seasons as the men's soccer coach at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne and has served as an assistant at Drake.
Singleton previously served as an assistant coach at Maryland- Baltimore County and Loyola (Md.), where she was an All- American as a player.
ISOTOPES ROLL Robert Andino had four hits to help the Pacific Coast League's Albuquerque Isotopes to a 9-3 home victory against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
Omar Quintanilla recorded four hits for the Sky Sox.
Starting pitcher Mike Esposito gave up nine runs and 14 hits in 3 1/3 innings for Colorado Springs.
DRYER FINISHES FIFTH Former Western State athlete Elva Dryer finished fifth Saturday in the women's portion of the Beach to Beacon 10-kilometer road race in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. She finished in 32 minutes, 54 seconds.
HOME AT LAST The Colorado State cross country team will host its first home event in three years this year.
The Sept 15 event - featuring a four-mile race for the men and a five-kilometer race for the women - will snake around the Hughes Stadium grounds in Fort Collins.
The Rams last hosted an event in 2004 at Collindale Golf Course.
MOORE QUALIFIES Regis High School graduate Sean Moore has qualified for the U.S. Olympic diving trial next year in Indianapolis after taking a silver medal with synchronized platform diving partner Wes Wieser at the National Diving Championships last week in Stanford, Calif.
