Police, FBI investigate explosion, attempted ATM robbery at southeast Denver bank

Published August 7, 2007 at midnight

Denver police today are investigating an apparent ATM robbery attempt and explosion at a bank in southeast Denver.

Evidence of an explosion was visible when police responded about 7 a.m. at the U S Bank at 2555 S. Colorado Blvd.

The DPD bomb squad and FBI agents are assisting in the investigation.

No suspects have been identified.

It was not immediately known if money was taken.

Shrapnel from the blast was apparently responsible for a shattered window at a nearby chiropractic office.

John Daniels of Daniels Chiropractic said debris from the explosion also was believed to have landed on the roof of his business, which he estimated is about 75 yards to the west of the heavily damaged ATM.
