Police: Doberman's owner kills pit bull after fights

Published August 7, 2007 at midnight

A dog owner stabbed and killed a pit bull at a Broomfield dog park last week, police reported Monday.

Officers were sent to Broomfield County Commons Dog Park on July 30 on reports that a pit bull had attacked a Doberman twice during a short period, according to Broomfield police.

In the first attack, the dog owners were able to separate the animals, police said. In the second attack, the dog owners and another witness were unable to separate the dogs.

Because the owners were unable to separate the animals, police said, the owner of the Doberman stabbed the pit bull several times with a pocketknife.

The pit bull and the Doberman were treated at a local veterinary clinic. The pit bull later died from its injuries.

The case has been forwarded to the district attorney's office for review and possible charges.
