Cops ID couple found dead in Highlands Ranch
Published August 7, 2007 at midnight
A couple found dead in a Highlands Ranch home Monday were identified by authorities today as Kelly Estrada and Mario Estrada.
Authorities said they have not determined the cause of death, and Douglas County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Cocha Heyden said the case remains open.
"We have to wait for the information about cause of death, and we take into account backgrounds, past records, criminal history coupled with interviews with family and neighbors to determine motive," she said.
Mario Estrada, 34, was arrested in June on a complaint of domestic abuse against Kelly Estrada, 36. That charge was dismissed, and he pleaded guilty to criminal mischief. Shortly after the arrest, Kelly Estrada, who also went by Kelly Thorpe, filed for divorce in July.
The bodies were found after a 911 call came Monday night to the house on the 8900 block of South Coyote Street. Investigators arrived on the scene and determined that there was no immediate threat to anyone else in the neighborhood.
