5 questions for Derek Griffiths, publisher of Colorado Runner magazine
Published August 7, 2007 at midnight
1 Colorado Runner is about to turn 4. What is it?
It's a glossy magazine that covers running and triathlon. Our Internet site has grown thanks to our race results and event guide to more than 150,000 page views a month. We also now have a monthly e-mail newsletter that is sent to nearly 20,000 people.
2 An out-of-state friend wants to run a race that is uniquely Colorado. What three would you recommend?
Bolder Boulder 10K: This is one of the biggest and best races in the country.
Pikes Peak Marathon: It's the oldest race in Colorado and with 26 miles of lung-burning trail to cover, it's one of the nation's greatest challenges.
Golden Leaf Half Marathon: At the height of the fall color season, this trail half marathon in Aspen is not one to miss.
3 What is your favorite running distance?
The marathon. I've run 53 so far. I average about four a year right now. I'm trying to run one in each state. I only have 15 to go.
4 If you could go on a five-mile group run with any four people, whom would you invite?
Lance Armstrong: So I could talk to him about the Tour and how he feels about the current state of cycling and the doping problems.
Paula Radcliffe: The current female marathon record holder, because she is the best female runner ever.
George W. Bush: So I could talk to him about politics and give him some of my ideas.
My dad: Because he loves to run and would think it was really cool to meet these three people.
5 If you had to give up either Colorado Runner or running, what would you do? Give up Colorado Runner. Running is a passion I hope to never give up.
