Rain may join Rockies, Fray on tonight's menu

For those who are looking to attend the Rockies-Brewers game tonight at Coors Field, National Weather Service meteorologist Kyle Fredin has some advice.

"If I were going to one of those events, I'd bring a Gortex jacket or an umbrella," he said.

Fredin is predicting heavy thunderstorms right around the time the Rockies are scheduled to take the field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

"I hope it misses — I've been following them," Fredin said, acknowledging he's happy the Rockies are playing meaningful games this late in the season. Currently, the Rockies are 5 1/2 games out of first-place and four games behind in the wild card race as they begin this homestand.

Fredin said rainfall totals similar to what Aurora experienced this weekend — more than an inch — were entirely possible.

He also said those expecting to see The Fray at Red Rocks tonight could experience the effects of heavy rain. Officials at Red Rocks said, however, the concert is still on for 7:30 p.m.

The band of moisture from southwest to northeast and accompanying thunderstorms are moving quickly, Fredin said. He said with so much moisture already in the air, the National Weather Service is not backing off its prediction of heavy rain.

Of course, there is always a caveat. There always is when predicting weather.

"Half of the city could stay dry and the other half will get drenched," he said.
