SWAT officers kill man at hotel

Published August 5, 2007 at midnight

SWAT officers shot and killed a "person of interest" in a homicide after a confrontation at a Parker Super 8 Motel early this morning, the Douglas County Sheriff’s office said.

Officers shot the man about 12 a.m. at the front of the hotel after he brandished a weapon, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

People staying at the Super 8 Motel, at 6230 Pine Lane, were evacuated and taken to an American Red Cross shelter at Pine Elementary before the SWAT Team tried to contact the suspect.

Douglas County SWAT officers served the search warrant at the motel at the request of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office, who believe the man was a person of interest in a homicide in their county.

Officers first spotted the man, who has not been identified, as he exited the second floor window of the motel. A woman who was in the motel room was arrested but her name is being withheld.

SWAT Team members involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave while the 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Team investigates.
