Simons: Sales hot in Boulder this weekend

It's a good weekend to visit Boulder.

The Downtown Boulder Sidewalk sale runs today and Sunday throughout the Pearl Street Mall and beyond.

Participating stores include Colorado Canines and Felines Too, 1738 Pearl St., 303-449-5069, which will offer free doggie smoothies from noon to 2 p.m. today at what might be Colorado's only café where dogs and people dine together; Fresh Produce, 1218 Pearl St., 303-442-7507, with 30 percent to 70 percent off colorful summer clearance sportswear for women and children; and Surya, 1211 Pearl St., 720-946-8881, with wall-to-wall discounts of 20 percent to 50 percent on a broad selection of Eastern apparel, jewelry and gifts. Go today and you also can pick up fine pottery with small flaws at amazing prices at the Boulder Potters' Guild Odds and Ends Sale, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3185 Sterling Circle, north of Valmont and west of 55th in Boulder.

Until they're gone, summer- clearance Ecco, Dansko, Birkenstock, Merrell and other comfort shoes are reduced by 25 percent to 45 percent at Macelli's Shoes and Repair, 3244 Youngfield St., Wheat Ridge, 303-237-9836.

The annual Dog Days of Summer Sidewalk Sale benefits patient care at Porter Hospital from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at 2525 S. Downing St., 303-778-5867. Selected jewelry, candles, plush toys and more are reduced by 50 percent to 75 percent. Funds from the sale previously have helped fund Porter's Cancer Care Center, ultrasound mammography unit, hospice and other facilities.

Summer clearance infant through size 12 boys' and girls' European and American clothing already reduced by 40 percent to 60 percent is an additional 10 percent off through August at Hollyhocks, 335 Holly St., 303-388-8001.

There are discounts throughout the store through Aug. 31 at Kozo Fine Arts Materials, 10 E. Ellsworth Ave., 303-733-2730, kozofineartmaterials.com. For example, stretched canvas and Winton oil paints are 40 percent off, Micron pens and pencils are 20 percent off and etching tools are 10 percent off.

Customers at all Borders and Waldenbooks stores in the metro area are being asked to purchase new books that will go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Throughout August, 5 percent of the total price of each book purchased at Borders or Waldenbooks for the program also will go to Boys and Girls Clubs.
