Sketch released in Glenwood officer's shooting
Published August 3, 2007 at midnight
GLENWOOD SPRINGS Police have released a sketch of a man they would like to interview in connection with the shooting of an officer.
Authorities said the Glenwood police officer was shot in the chest late Sunday but survived because he was wearing a bulletproof vest.
The officer, who suffered a chest bruise, said getting shot was like "getting hit in the chest with a baseball bat."
Police said the officer had spotted two men walking near some businesses and storage areas south of the Glenwood Springs airport about 11 p.m. Sunday and repeatedly ordered them to stop. The area is located near the city impound yard.
The men kept walking until one of them turned and fired several shots at the officer. Police said the officer returned fire, but it wasn't clear whether either suspect was hit.
The suspects are described as Hispanic males, 5-5 to 5-7, weighing approximately 155 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
One suspect was wearing a black or a dark blue hooded sweat shirt, dark pants and black and white tennis shoes. The other suspect was wearing a red hooded sweat shirt with dark pants and lace-up boots.
Garfield County Crime Stoppers is searching for information that will lead to the arrest and indictment of the suspects involved in this case. Remain anonymous and earn up to $4,000 by calling 970-945-0101.
