First job, August 3

David Lack

Executive director, Cl'nica Tepeyac

• First job: Ordained Lutheran pastor

After receiving degrees in music, Lack decided to go back to school while living in St. Paul, Minn., to earn his master's in divinity.

"I then took a job with a Lutheran church in Davenport, Iowa. Since I was a young pastor, I was given duties related to the young members," he said. "I did weddings, baptisms, youth work, counseling and, during the summer, I was director of the church's summer camp program."

Lack said the transition from being a pastor in a church to nonprofit work was not difficult because he is still helping people who need his services.

"Now my ministry is focusing on people's health. It's a great thing."
