Brown has plenty in reserve

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Chris Brown was hailed three years ago as one of the promising young running backs in the NFL.
He topped the 1,000-yard mark in his second pro season, with his 4.9-yard average tops among backs with 200 carries or more.
Now, the former University of Colorado player is an insurance policy for the Tennessee Titans.
Brown, pushed into a reserve role the past two years - he played in only five games in 2006 - hit the market this offseason looking for a new team. But instead of signing with the Chicago Bears, he re-signed with the Titans, calling it the best fit.
"I knew it was always a possibility coming back," Brown said last week. "I never really closed the door. I feel good coming back here and feel like I can start or play a lot and contribute."
Former Chatfield High School player LenDale White is the projected starter after the free- agent departure of Travis Henry, but assistant head coach/running backs Sherman Smith said the battle is wide open, with rookie Chris Henry in the mix.
"Last year was tough because he has a great deal of pride," Smith said of Brown, who has rushed for 2,295 yards and 11 touchdowns in four years with the Titans. "He's a good player and it's never been a question about his ability, just his durability."
Smith said Brown was a true professional last year despite being deactivated for much of the season.
"He came out and worked hard and continued to be a (good) example," Smith said. "He's a professional. That's why I'm glad he's back.
"He's going to help us win some games."
