Floods wash out Colo. 78 bridge, shut road

Published August 2, 2007 at midnight

Flooding yesterday washed out a bridge and portion of roadway on Colorado 78, about a mile east of Beulah.

Colorado Department of Transportation officials said today the only detour available is Colorado 165, which is a dirt road and not recommended for larger vehicles.

Beulah is about 25 miles southwest of Pueblo.

CDOT said several Custer and Pueblo county roads have also experienced flooding and washouts. Highway officials urged motorists to verify roads are open and in good condition before traveling.

There was no immediate estimate on how long it will take to replace the bridge and reopen Colorado 78.
