On the bright side, the week's half over

Published August 1, 2007 at midnight

Hello, August.

Enjoy that summer vacation while it lasts, kids, because school bells are about to clang.

No more sleeping in, but plenty of glorious sunrises to look forward to, such as the light show on the metro area's eastern horizon today.

Mother Nature will celebrate the changing of the calendar with a two-day gift of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, CBS 4's Ed Greene says.

Clouds are expected to roll in this afternoon, bringing a 20 percent chance of showers and highs in the low 90s. The chance of thunderstorms will double tonight, with lows in the low 60s.

Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected to prevail tomorrow with highs in the low to mid-80s, and the chance of showers remaining at 40 percent, Ed says.

The weekend should bring some clearing, with highs in the low 90s.
