Cops show clothing from body found by realtor
Published August 1, 2007 at midnight
Investigators today showed the distinctive clothing of a murdered man whose body was discovered last week outside a home for sale near Morrison.
They hope the garments will spur the public to help identify the victim and bring his killer to justice.
"It's extremely crucial that we find the identity of this person," Jefferson County sheriff's investigator Dan Dunnebecke said at a morning news conference.
"We can't start this investigation without knowing his name."
The body was discovered by a real estate agent showing the mountain house with stunning views in the 8400 block of Scenic Drive. Authorities aren't revealing the cause of death to protect the ongoing investigation.
The man was wearing a distinctive gray shirt with a "DECA" logo over the left breast, Dunnebecke said.
DECA is an acronym for Delta Epsilon Chi, an international association of high school and college students studying marketing, management and other business specialities. But investigators don't believe he was involved in the organization.
He was also wearing newer blue jeans and brown Georgia brand work boots, which are only sold on the Internet. The boots had brown, broken laces.
"We hope somebody out there can identify the clothing and can possibly help identify this person so years down the road this doesn't become a cold case," Dunnebecke said.
A check of the victim's fingerprints failed to identify the man, who is described as 5-8 to 5-10 with a medium build, long black ponytail and a mustache. His age is estimated at between 40 and 55.
Investigators say the body could have been there roughly from May, when the house went on sale, to July.
