Bronco's slaying suspect pleads not guilty in drug case
Published August 1, 2007 at midnight
One of the men suspected in the murder of Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams pleaded not guilty today to federal drug charges.
Willie DeWayne Clark is charged with conspiracy and distribution of cocaine and crack cocaine.
Authorities say Clark sold drugs in the Denver area with a group of gang members known as the "Elite Eight."
Members of the group are suspected in 11 unsolved murders, including the New Year's Day drive-by shooting of Williams, police have said.
The group also is responsible for moving hundreds of kilograms of cocaine worth millions of dollars through the metro area, according to court testimony.
No one has been charged in Williams' murder, but Clark's attorney identified him in a court document as one of three suspects.
