The Colorado Trail, Kenosha Pass to Jefferson Creek

Distance: 5.7 miles each way (out and back)

Elevation gain: 380 feet (starts at 10,000 feet)

Difficulty: Moderate but technically easy

Time: Five hours

Getting there: From Denver, drive on U.S. 285 south to Kenosha Pass and park on the west side of the road near the entrance to the Kenosha Park Campground. Head into the campground and follow the signs to the trailhead.

Highlights: Kenosha Pass had long served as an Indian trail into the fertile hunting grounds of South Park and was crossed by Anglo parties as early as 1830.

The route to the lake gradually rises and falls as it makes its way across a creek and through areas of burnt trees.

This stretch is part of the 468-mile trail that makes its way from Denver to Durango. This hike follows Segment 6 of 28 segments.
